Key point in one sentence:
A guest at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel found three bed bugs on the bedsheets and pillow of their Discovery Tower room, caught one in a bottle and handed it to the front desk in person — and heard nothing for seven hours, while being charged in full.
Even Disney hotels are not immune. A guest at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California took to r/Disneyland over the weekend to report three suspected bed bugs in their room. They caught one in a plastic bottle and handed it to the front desk — where staff reportedly “did nothing”. Seven hours and four unanswered departments later, the guest was still charged the full room rate. Disney paid $100,000 in 2022 to settle a bed-bug bite case.
The report: three bugs on the sheets and pillow
- Reddit user lejlababy posted that in their Discovery Tower room at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, they found three small reddish-brown bugs: one larger bug on their friend’s bedsheets, one larger bug on their own bedsheets, and one smaller, rounder bug on the pillow.
- The two pulled back the bedding and checked the sheet seams, but found no more bugs. They captured one in a plastic bottle and brought it to the front desk, asking staff whether these were bed bugs.
- According to the post, the front desk “did nothing” — no follow-up plan was offered.
- Commenters quickly confirmed the photos showed bed bugs, and advised heat-treating all luggage and clothing at home to keep the bugs from hitching a ride back.
Seven hours later: four departments, zero replies
- In a Sunday-afternoon update, the guest wrote that seven hours after reporting the bugs and physically handing over a specimen, there had been “absolutely no follow-up or resolution”.
- They had contacted the front desk manager, Guest Billing Services, Walt Disney Travel Guest Communications and the Disneyland Resort Guest Correspondence Team — all went unanswered.
- Adding insult to injury, they were still charged the full amount for the stay.
- “I’m exhausted, frustrated, and now facing the added stress of making sure these little hitchhikers don’t follow me home,” the guest wrote.
Not the first time: Disney paid $100,000 to settle a bed-bug case
- According to WDW News Today, Disney agreed in 2022 to pay a guest $100,000 after she claimed she was bitten by bed bugs at the hotel in 2018.
- The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, a Disney Vacation Club resort, opened in September 2023; the room in question was in Discovery Tower.
Travelling to the US: three steps to check your hotel
- Spend 10 minutes checking on arrival: pull back the foot of the bed and inspect mattress seams and headboard gaps for dark spots, blood smears or live bugs.
- Report to the front desk immediately if you spot anything suspicious — keep evidence (photos / video) and ask for a room change; do not move into the room next door yourself.
- Check your luggage as soon as you get home and heat-treat clothing — bed bugs love hitching rides in suitcases.
