Scotland Premier Inn Guests Bitten by Bed Bugs Band Together to Sue Hotel

Guests at several Premier Inn hotels in Scotland have been bitten by bed bugs during overnight stays — and a group of them has now hired lawyers to seek compensation from the hotel chain. According to an exclusive report by the Scottish Sun, their solicitors say bed bug bite claims have been on the rise, calling the experience “horrid and humiliating”.

Group claim: lawyers say bite cases are rising

  • The guests are represented by Thompsons Solicitors Scotland, which is pursuing the hotel chain on their behalf.
  • Partner Seonaid Brophy said: “We’re seeing an increase in cases of bed bug bites.” She described being bitten as “a horrid and humiliating experience”, adding that her team is pursuing the hotel chains “to make sure victims get proper compensation for these incidents”.
  • Solicitor Caitlyn Thomas warned that some people dismiss bites as “just an irritation”, but left untreated they can have health implications. Her advice to travellers: take photographs and videos, and report it to whoever you are staying with, straight away.
  • Footage shared by one guest shows a bug scurrying across white sheets, while another image shows a bitten hand.

A “Good Night Guarantee” chain under fire

  • Premier Inn, which markets its Good Night Guarantee, is one of the UK’s biggest hotel chains with multiple properties across Scotland.
  • At the time of publication, the hotel had not responded to a request for comment.

Why Hong Kong travellers should care

Bed bugs in hotels are a worldwide traveller’s problem: they hide in mattress seams and behind headboards, nearly invisible by day. Beyond the itching, a bite can turn into a compensation matter — which is exactly why the lawyers’ advice matters: the moment you spot a bed bug, photograph it, film it, and notify the hotel immediately. That evidence is what a future claim stands on.
